Venue: "As an excellent guitarist, singer, and composer Geraldo Azevedo has created in his songs a unique blend between the sophisticated harmonies of bossa-nova and the pulsating rhythms of Latin music. In his work, it is possible to find, side by side, lyrical love songs, such as “Dia Branco” (Geraldo Azevedo and Renato Rocha), which completed 40 years of release in 2019, and Caribbean numbers full of swing, such as “Veneza Americana” (Geraldo Azevedo and Carlos Fernando). There is also an urban flavor in “Táxi Lunar” and regional rhythms that sing about the Brazilian sertão and other icons of northeastern culture and folklore, such as “Morena Linda Flor” (Geraldo Azevedo and Geraldo Amaral).
His discography is composed of several albums, among solo works – like the most recent, the live CD “Arraiá de Geraldo Azevedo”, released in 2020 – and successful partnerships, such as in “Violivoz”, with Chico César, in “O Grande Encontro” (1, 2, 3 and 4), with Alceu Valença, Elba Ramalho and Zé Ramalho, and in “Cantoria” (1 and 2), with Elomar, Xangai, and Vital Farias. Essentially a composer, Geraldo writes his songs in partnerships with poets/friends, whether since the beginning of his career, with Carlos Fernando and Renato Rocha, or in more recent years, with Capinan and Fausto Nilo. The artist celebrates, in 2022, 50 years of discography career. His first album, “Geraldo Azevedo & Alceu Valença”, was released in 1972.
Some of his compositions cross generations and form a repertoire forever engraved in the public’s memory. “Caravana” (Geraldo Azevedo and Alceu Valença), “Moça Bonita” (Geraldo Azevedo and Capinan), and “Dona da Minha Cabeça” (Geraldo Azevedo and Fausto Nilo), are examples of songs released in the 70’s that are still part of his current setlist."
